Dropping the Pilot is a political cartoon by Sir John Tenniel, first published in the British magazine Punch, March 1890. It depicts Chancellor Otto von Bismarck stepping off a ship, watched by the German Emperor Wilhelm II.

Post boxes in the UK have been painted in BS539 since 1969, and before that in BS538 between 1874 and 1969 (although the Royal Mail / Consignia plc appear to have a fair bit left over as they still occasionally paint post boxes with it).
