Happy St. Patrick’s Day 2025 – Remembering Old Friends and Goodbye to Anne Marie Davies

St. Patrick’s Day has always been more than just a date on the calendar. It’s a time for gathering, for stories, for laughter, and for remembering. Over the years, I’ve celebrated many a St. Patrick’s Day. And many of those at the Village Maid pub in Handsworth, once a place filled with music, laughter, and the warmth of familiar faces. But like so many things, the Village Maid is gone now, just another memory of a time that once was.

And this year, another absence weighs heavier than most.

Anne Marie Davies was stolen from us. A friend, with a kind heart, a presence that can’t be replaced. It’s hard to accept that she’s gone, harder still to put into words the loss of someone who should still be here. There are no easy words, no simple goodbyes, only the memories, the echoes of laughter, and the mark she left on those who knew her.

So tonight, while the world toasts to Ireland, I’ll be raising my glass to Anne.

Usually, I’d say Erin Go Bragh, Ireland Forever, but this St. Patrick’s Day, I think “Fe Godwn ni eto” is more fitting, because “we will rise again”.

Until we meet again, Anne, God bless you.
